Things White Guys Dance To
After watching the birthday crew at Catonia’s DJ set tonight, here’s my blog post of THINGS WHITE GUYS DANCE TO.
Let me preface the list by recounting the “slightly older, slight more sober”* friend who came to the DJ booth to let us know the entire crowd was some guy’s birthday party. Then he requested a song we’d never heard of by a band we’d never heard of. As the official “NO” man of the night, I had to deny but asked him to offer alternatives.
He came back later with a list of two: some “early 2000s” Buckcherry (that got a NO and “you’re a really good friend though, clearly”) and Danzig “Mother.” Er, we endorsed the latter. It’s a good song. Hard to go into at a bar/club but not impossible.
Usually if you play songs that the girls dance to, you’ll get the guys to dance by force. The guys tonight were something else though. Here’s what make them shake it, as I recall:
House of Pain “Jump Around”
Notorious BIG “Hypnotize”
Salt ‘N Pepa “Push It”
David Bowie “Modern Love”
Peter Bjorn and John “Young Folks” — yeah, I don’t know why, are 30 year olds nostalgic for this?
Beastie Boys “Hey Ladies” — this actually caused some kind of dance circle
