That Fleetwood Mac Tribute Album

If you know me at all, you know that I love Fleetwood Mac. That I have for years. I’m always interested in the covers, the lovers, the tributes, and certainly the tribulations. 

So far, to me, this tribute coming out on Concord, seems interestingly disjointed. I’m not sure I can endorse it, because for me a huge part of the appeal of Fleetwood Mac is how easily tracks designed by five different songwriters fit together cohesively. Nothing about this comp promises to be cohesive. 

I like the Lykke Li and New Pornographers track in the player below, but they don’t sound like they fit on the same album.

That said, it’s worth a listen to form your own opinion.

Feeling Nostalgic: The New Pornographers “Moves”

For whatever reason every comedian in Brooklyn is friends with this band. It’s cute. Last night while I was having an email with a friend of a friend, wherein we discovered random people we have in common, only to find we have a Human Giant connection. And it made me think of the time I went to see The New Pornographers at the Bell House in Brooklyn with Sam Grossman, who developed Human Giant for MTV. As expected every comedian in the borough was in attendance and all of them kept coming up to Sam to say hi.

When Sam introduced me to Eugene Mirman, he told Eugene that I programmed MTV2 Subterranean. Eugene waited a beat and then said to us, “It’s perfect that you two are friends. You’re the people behind the only decent shows on MTV…that no one watches.” He found this very, very funny.

I believe our collective response was along the lines of, “Ha ha…fuck you.” Then we felt depressed and drank a lot. Or I drank a lot and Sam played on his Blackberry and stopped introducing me to comedians.
